You Are Important

Did you know?

• 73% of all women reported having received encouragement to breastfeed from their obstetric provider
• 74.6% of these women initiated breastfeeding
• Only 43.2% of women who were not encouraged to breastfeed initiated breastfeeding

We encourage you to:

• Talk to your patients about the benefits of breastfeeding
• Refer your patient to WIC for more information on nutrition, breastfeeding and health

Remember To:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of the WIC pediatric referral form.
2. Make sure the form is completely filled out, signed, and dated before giving it to parents.
3. Make sure to include the patients labs’ (Hemoglobin and Hematocrit, Lead Levels, Height and Weight).
4. Make sure to visit the State WIC website to get WIC information and policies for health care providers.
